About Transit Yellow

Transit Yellow is a Lovecraftian music project exploring the dread of weird fiction — heavy space rock, stoner doom, and post-punk transmissions from further out than the map goes. The core imaginative territory is H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, including "The Call of Cthulhu," "At the Mountains of Madness," "The Whisperer in Darkness," and "The Colour Out of Space." This extends through Robert W. Chambers's The King in Yellow (which Lovecraft absorbed into his own mythology), Frank Belknap Long's "The Hound of Tindalos," the cosmic engineering of Iain M. Banks and Arthur C. Clarke, and the wider weird fiction canon of Robert Aickman and Thomas Ligotti. From the drowned spires of R'lyeh to the courts of the King in Yellow to the empty space between stars, this is the transmission you find on frequencies nobody was supposed to be broadcasting on.

The core sound draws from the low, slow weight of doom and the expansive drift of space rock. Riffs that unfold like something vast turning in its sleep. The project reaches further too — into the cold post-punk transmissions of factory floors picking up a signal they can't source, into the sound of vessels breaking apart between stars, into the register of things filed and quietly forgotten. Each release is a transmission from beyond the edge of the map. Cosmic horror music for readers, gamers, and anyone who knows the universe is indifferent and the deep places are occupied.

The name comes from nowhere and everywhere. Transit: the passage between states, the crossing of thresholds, the moment between waking and whatever comes after. Yellow: the colour of old pages, of the King's ragged robes, of the sickly light that leaks through cracks in the world.
